Tony McCaffery (they/them) is Founder and CEO of Diversity Scotland (known internationally as Diversity Company), a leading consultancy specialising in creating equitable and inclusive communities and workplace cultures. Through disruptive consultation, coaching, and practical solutions, Tony guides organisations in attracting, developing, and retaining talent from a range of diverse backgrounds whilst fostering genuine belonging for people who experience marginalisation, minoritisation as a result of their identities or lived experience.
With over 30 years' experience across HR, Learning & Development, and Talent Acquisition, Tony has driven transformative change in organisations ranging from global corporations to local enterprises. Their expertise spans the public, private, and voluntary sectors, where they advise leaders, HR professionals, and elected representatives on embedding equity and inclusion.
A sought-after speaker and media contributor, Tony regularly shares insights on diversity and equity with global businesses and NGOs. They serve as an Advisory Friend to the UK's Institute of Equality & Diversity Practitioners, and under their leadership, Diversity Scotland has become a certified member of the Global Supplier Diversity Alliance (GSDA). Since 2020, Tony has held strategic board/advisory positions with organisations including Bike for Good, Company of Others, Historic Environment Scotland, and Skills Development Scotland.
Tony's approach is deeply informed by their lived experience as a queer, multi-ethnic person of colour with multiple disabilities and forms of neurodivergence. Their unique perspective is shaped by experiences of childhood homelessness, the foster care system, and social mobility. Drawing from their rich heritage - which includes Indian, Somali, Celtic, and Indigenous Arctic ancestry - Tony brings authentic insight and understanding to their work in advancing equity and inclusion.
I'm excited to support Big Sister in helping young people feel safe and confident online. With my background in promoting inclusion and belonging, I know how important it is that young people can explore and connect without fear, while parents and caregivers have the reassurance they need.
