Ellen Roome is a bereaved mother from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, who has become a prominent advocate for child online safety. Her journey began in April 2022 when she tragically found her 14-year-old son, Jools Sweeney, not breathing in his bedroom. Believing that Jools may have participated in an online challenge that went wrong, Ellen has been campaigning for greater transparency and access to children's social media data.

Ellen's campaign, known as "Jools Law," seeks to allow parents to access their children's social media accounts. She has faced significant challenges from social media companies, which have required court orders for Jools’ data access. Despite these obstacles, Ellen's petition has garnered substantial public support, with 126,033 signatures in just ten days, and this will be discussed in Parliament on 13th Jan 2025.

Ellen's efforts have not only raised awareness about the dangers of social media along with her resilience and determination to seek answers and prevent other families from experiencing similar tragedies have made her a powerful voice in the fight for better online protections for children.  You can read more here… www.joolslaw.co.uk
